Not On The List is a creative writing and leadership program for students in grades 6–12 that invites young people to rethink how Black history is told. Participants write a 500-word essay honoring a Black hero in their own lives who is not typically recognized during Black History Month—someone whose story has never been written before, such as a parent, grandparent, teacher, or community leader. Each month, one winning essay is selected to be published in our newsletter, with the author receiving a NOTL swag bag and a $50 Visa gift card. At the end of the year, all submissions will be compiled into an annual anthology, giving students the powerful opportunity to become published authors while uplifting the everyday heroes shaping their lives and communities.
